On August 20th (local time), Qualcomm announced a new mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. It boasts that it "provides on-device generation AI capabilities that support LLMs such as Llama 2 1B."
Although the "s" segment has lower performance than the "Plus" and the no-brand models, the CPU is 20% faster and the GPU is 40% faster than the "Snapdragon 7s Gen 2", AI performance is 30% better, and power performance is 12% better.
"Selecting key features of the 7 Series, including on-device AI support, brings the best of the 7 Series to more mid-range devices," Qualcomm said, explaining that the move is part of "our commitment to providing consumers with best-in-class mobile experiences at every price point."
Sharp, Samsung, Xiaomi, Realme and others are expected to announce the adoption of this processor in the coming months, with Xiaomi being the first to announce the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 in a new device to be announced in September.
